Games to play with your baby

Most parents realize how important it is to talk to their baby, but not every one finds it easy to do this without feeling embarrassed or self –conscious. That’s one reason why the games that parents traditionally play with their babies are so important. They provide a natural way for you to interact with your baby. Many of them involve simple repetitive rhymes and songs that even a baby quickly learns to recognize and that will help to stimulate his/her own language development. Here are some favorite games to play with your young child.

Tickling and touching games

Games that involve you lovingly handling his/her body are fun for your baby, and you will be surprised at how soon he/she will learn to understand and respond when you start to play one of them. When you sing “The wheels on the bus”, you can involve his/her whole body, his/her legs becoming the wheels, his/her arms the opening and closing doors, and the wipers. He will enjoy having his toes wiggled in “This little piggy:, and having you lightly run your fingers from his/her toes to his/her head for “All the way home”. In games such as “Round and round the garden”, and “there was a little mouse that lived just there”, he/she will be overcome with excitement at anticipation of the tickly ending.
