Well Breast Feeding Signs

MY SWEET.......

The WHO (World health organisation) and the AAP (American Academy of Pediatrics) emphasize the value of breastfeeding for mothers as well as children. Both recommend exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life. The AAP recommends that this be followed by supplemented breastfeeding for at least one year, while WHO recommends that supplemented breastfeeding continue up to two years or       more. While recognizing the superiority of breastfeeding, regulating authorities also work to minimize the risks of artificial feeding.
Not all the properties of breast milk are understood, but its nutrient content is relatively stable.
Breast milk is made from nutrients in the mother's bloodstream and bodily stores.
Breast milk has just the right amount of fat, sugar, water, and protein that is needed for a baby's growth and development.
Because breastfeeding uses an average of 500 calories a day it helps the mother lose weight after giving birth.
The composition of breast milk changes depending on how long the baby nurses at each session, as well as on the age of the child.
The quality of a mother's breast milk may be compromised by smoking, alcoholic, caffeinated drinks, marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin and methadone. Nonetheless, concerns about milk quality must be balanced with concerns about artificial baby milk.
The American Academy of Pediatrics states that "Tobacco smoking by mothers is not a contraindication to breastfeeding.
" In addition, the AAP states that, while breastfeeding mothers "should avoid the use of alcoholic beverages," an "occasional celebratory single, small alcoholic drink is acceptable, but breastfeeding should be avoided for 2 hours after the drink."

Breastfeeding is going well for you and your baby when:
  • You feel a tug, but it does not hurt, when the baby sucks
  • Your baby swallows hard after a few strong sucks
  • Your baby is content at the end of the feeding
  • By the time your baby is four days old, you see at least six wet diapers and two to five bowel movements every 24 hours
  • Your baby is gaining weight at each check-up
Some other signs that you may notice:
  • Your uterus may tighten during or after feedings the first few days after delivery
  • You may feel sleepy or relaxed when your baby nurses
  • You may notice that your breast softens as your baby nurses
  • Your baby's arms and shoulders will relax during feeding
