21st Week of Pregnancy: The size of your baby is a large banana


During 21 week of pregnancy the fetus now 360 weighs and 10.5 inches/27 CM long. The size of your baby is a large banana. Your baby’s eyebrows and eyelids are fully developed. The fingernails cover the fingertips. Your baby is still pretty active and continues to move all over in the amniotic fluid. He/she wakes and sleeps in regular intervals. Your baby’s buds for permanent teeth are beginning to form. Your baby’s organs are developing and maturing his central nervous system. This week your baby will produce meconium, a sticky greenish black substance that form in your baby’s intestines and will be its first bowel movement. Your baby’s red cells are increasing and infection fighting white cells are beginning to be manufactured.

      During this week the pregnant lady uterus spreads half an inch above the bellybutton. This week your breasts will continue to grow larger and the surrounding area around your nipple will continue getting darker. This period weight gain in 10-20 Kg. These weeks skin color changes, they can eat foods rich in folic acid to deal with blotchy skin. These weeks you can continue drinking tap water as the fluoride in it will help your baby’s tooth enamel. You can eat healthy diet. Overall your daily calorie requirement is about 2500 calories. This period the volume of blood flowing around your body doubles so maintains a high fluid intake. You can drink at least eight glasses of water every day.
     During 21 week of pregnancy the common pregnancy symptoms are constipation, frequent urination, headache, and stretch marks, itching, round ligament pain and breast changes –tenderness, fullness, darkening of the areola.
