SHAPING UP AFTER DELIVERY

Every woman who's ever had a baby knows how difficult it is to take off that extra weight. Though it is tough but it is possible with little patience and regular workouts. This is no small task, but by starting your fitness regimen and starting a modified exercise program for the first time, you can improve the tone of your body and get back your previous figure. However before you decide to begin, you should check with your doctor before starting any exercise program.

It is necessary to know that during pregnancy:

  • A woman's waist expands 50 inches
  • Her skin is stretched by 400%
  • Her hips widen half a foot
  • Her fat cells grow to 125% their original size -- all 30 billion of them
  • Your Post pregnancy Exercise Program
  • Both fit and unfit new moms should ease into an exercise routine by taking 20-minute walks three days a week, for example. You should slowly increase the duration or distance of your regimen each week. Initially you can begin walking and working on exercises for your abdomen, lower back and pelvic muscles. During the first six weeks, you can start walking to increase your circulation and get some general exercise. Do what you can handle, even if it's only for 10 to 15 minutes. Increase the time duration as you get stronger. After you've received your doctor's approval, move on to 50 to 60 minutes of continuous walking, for four to five days a week. Of course, you can take your baby along in a pram/a stroller if you have to. Once you can walk comfortably for 20 minutes, begin to increase your speed.

What to pack in your hospital bag

The 9 months leading up to the day when your child says HELLO (DITO NA ME!!) is your time to prepare. The crib, the diaper bags, the clothes, the toys, the strollers, the bottles, the monthly check-ups and weigh-ins all lead to that one day when you finally go to the hospital to finally meet the little cutie who’s been kicking and moving inside you. You may also need to go into hospital for an overnight stay at some other point during your pregnancy before the birth, and although it's probably over-the-top to have a bag prepared on the off-chance, it is a good idea to be mentally prepared for what you would need to have with you. So here's what to pack for an overnight stay:

For you

  • Your maternity notes
  • A dressing gown you’ll feel comfortable walking around the halls in
  • A wash bag with your washing essentials and a hairbrush or comb
  • Comfortable house shoes or slippers for when you want to go wandering the corridors
  • A towel
  • A change of underwear
  • Two nightgowns

And if you're preparing a bag for labour then add to that:

  • Any props you plan to use in labour, whether that’s aromatherapy candles, oils, a pillow, massage instruments, rescue remedy, calming music and player etc.
  • High energy snacks for yourself and birthing partner Several pairs of old or disposable knickers and at least one nursing bra if you’re planning/hoping to breastfeed
  • If you're planning on breastfeeding then take nightgowns that won’t interfere with feeding after the birth i.e. open-fronted

forceps delivery using instruments

A forceps delivery is a type of operative vaginal delivery. It's sometimes needed in the course of vaginal childbirth. Forceps are instruments designed to help in the delivery of the fetus by applying traction to the fetal head. Many different types of forceps have been described and developed.

Generally, forceps consist of 2 mirror image metal instruments that are manipulated to cradle the fetal head and are articulated, after which traction is applied to effect delivery.

Forceps have 4 major components, they are:

Blades: The blades grasp the fetus. Each blade has a curve to fit around the fetal head. The blades are oval or elliptical and can be with a hole in the middle or solid. Many blades are also curved in a plane 90° from the cephalic curve to fit the maternal pelvis.

Lochia is the name given to postpartum bleeding. Every woman who delivers a child, either vaginally or through cesarean section will experience this type of bleeding. It is the way in which your body expels excess mucus, placental tissue, and blood after giving birth. Lochia is very similar to the bleeding you experience during your menstrual period however, it is much heavier. It typically begins in the hours immediately following birth and usually continues for two or three weeks. However, in some women lochia can last for up to six weeks.

Symptoms of postpartum bleeding

Postpartum bleeding usually begins as a bright red discharge from the vagina. This blood typically continues to be bright red in color for between four and ten days. After ten days, your lochia will become a pink color, eventually changing to a yellowish-white color. This blood flow may be constant and even, or it may be expelled in intermittent gushes. Postpartum bleeding may also be accompanied by numerous small blood clots, about the size of a grape.

Bleeding during pregnancy: causes and symptoms
